The Manchester Tiles Letter N – Northern Quarter

The Northern Quarter is a unique inner-city neighbourhood, which developed organically in response to the needs of a generation of young Mancunians. Our Northern Quarter ceramic tile captures this iconic Manchester district with authentic detail. While other areas have sprung up with alternative credentials, NQ still has a unique energy and its bars, clubs, and restaurants which number some of the city’s most legendary institutions, such as Night and Day and Matt and Phred’s.

Rendered in our distinctive pen and ink style, our tile depicts the re-purposing of the existing street fabric, its eye-catching street art, and a homage to Tony Wilson: arguably the single most important agent in ushering in the new social conditions. The Northern Quarter housed in the fabric of the past is a celebration of spontaneity and excitement for the present.

Each N Tile is designed here in Manchester then hand-rolled and glazed in the UK’s ceramic heartland Stoke-on-Trent, before returning for artwork firing in local kilns. A fitting end for a quintessentially Mancunian statement.
